On April 16th, 2025- Hawthorne Heights performed at the Charleston Music Hall in South Carolina with special guests; Chiodos, Emmure, and The Callous Daoboys. I understand that Chiodos was headlining but yesterday was National Semicolon Day and Hawthorne Heights created music in the early 2000’s for those who struggle with isolation, self-harm, suicide, and more mental health disorders. This band is the reason some of us made it to the next day because through their music, it showed us we are not the only ones struggling and that even if you think someone may be fine, they could possibly be struggling silently
Throughout their set, Woodruff (vocalist) would make a speech after every song and honestly; it was something I needed to hear as an individual who has been struggling mentally for some time. And listening to him speak about topics that I know hit the core of hundreds at the show made the show the most memorable so far of 2025. Woodruff spoke about struggling during his childhood because his family divorced while he was young, and it caused emotional turmoil within himself. He also stated that he moved from Georgia to West Virginia I believe and that’s when he found himself. Being able to speak about his personal life showed us that it’s okay to speak out about it. It’s okay to let everything out because like he stated during his set
“We need to stop the cycle. We need to be the ones to stop the cycle of abuse. Love your wife. Love your kids. Love your husband. Go home and love them. If you hate your work, leave it at work. Don’t bring it inside of your home. Go home and be happy”
Hawthorne Heights performed songs such as: “This Is Who We Are”, “Pens and Needles” , “Saying Sorry”, “Niki FM”, and “Ohio Is for Lovers”. Before they started “Constant Dread”, Woodruff spoke about how we dread life sometimes. We dread getting out of bed. We dread what the next day might bring. We are in constant dread that takes away the light from us to be able to move on and be productive. And he also stated that the world is fake and everything around you especially on social media, is fake. I agree with him because as a society we honestly are so glued to social media and phones that we forget what’s truly real. Woodruff said to everyone to put away their phones for the night. Take in the atmosphere. Be present. Don’t think about the past or future. Just think about the MOMENT and enjoy yourself. If you haven’t seen this band, please make sure you check their set out on whatever tours they go on in the future. They are the band that makes you realize that you need to love yourself, which we all need to realize.
