Review: Daytime TV at Third Man Records Showcase with Marshall Records

Daytime TV invited press and industry guests to Third Man Records in Soho for an intimate showcase with Marshall Records, offering a first-hand look at the latest chapter for the alternative rock quartet. They had half an hour to make their point, and they absolutely didn’t miss.
Formed in 2020, Daytime TV are Will Irvine on vocals, John Caddick on guitar, Naomi Boschetti on bass and Gareth Thompson on drums. They've already shared stages with You Me At Six, Twin Atlantic and Two Door Cinema Club, as well as a barnstorming set at BST Hyde Park. This year brought another significant step, with the band signing to Marshall Records.
There wasn't much time for introductions once they took to the small stage at Third Man Records. With just four songs, this was less about putting on a full show and more about showing exactly what Daytime TV are capable of.
Sun got things underway before attention turned to the reason everyone was there: new single Creatures. Released just days before the showcase, Creatures was written from a much more serious place than its energy initially suggests. Irvine became seriously ill several years ago, an experience which left him confronting his own mortality and ultimately asking a fairly enormous question: what would you do with one day left on Earth?
His answer was to stop taking everything quite so seriously, get your friends together and have a massive rave. Creatures feels built accordingly. It's heavy enough to retain the band's alternative rock foundations, but with an electronic pulse and a chorus designed for considerably bigger rooms than the one we were standing in. Mediate then followed before Anger MGMT closed this short, sharp set.
Personally, I was left creating a full set, and thankfully the band will be hitting the road with a UK tour throughout October. The performance left plenty to suggest that Daytime TV's new chapter with Marshall Records is set to impress.
