When I first sat down to review Love and a .38's new single "Revelation" the plan was to do one listen and just give a hot take first impression. I wanted to give just a raw unfiltered take but then something strange happened. Something that musically doesn't happen to me often. I was at a total loss of words.
I fall into a horrible trap quite frequently when listening to new music where I want to relate the new music to something I know something familiar. Sometimes it's relating it to previous work by the same band and other times I try to find comfort in comparing it to another band I am fond of. "Revelation" I could not find a comparison. The opening of the song has a kinda rockabilly swing to it but it quickly escalates from there into true just unapologetic rock. It really takes me back in time to the days when rock n roll ruled the radio stations.
As much as I enjoyed "Revelation" blasting at high volumes driving down the road I can't help but feel like I am missing part of the experience. I truly feel that to get the full experience this needs to be heard loud and live. I can just imagine singing "Welcome to the show, hold on tight and let's get carried away" at the top of my lungs in some dimly lit club .
"Revelation" has earned its place in my summer rock n roll rotation.
