Music Review: Catch Your Breath Drop "Not Broken Enough"

On August 28th, 2026, Austin, Texas based hard rock/metalcore group Catch Your Breath released their highly anticipated sophomore album Not Broken Enough. The group made huge waves in the music world in 2022 with their soulful, yet pleading, hit “Dial Tone”, which catapulted the group to rock star status.

Not Broken Enough is a hard-hitting blend of chugging riffs and synth that bleeds into vocal effects that thankfully don’t fully distract from Josh Mowery’s powerful delivery. The album brings themes of loss and painful self-reflection into sharp focus, encouraging the listener to sit with the feelings instead of scrambling for a way out.

The first track, “Contaminated” recognizes that a relationship isn’t working and the cry in Mowery’s voice during the chorus amplifies that pain. “Blood Money” is the heaviest track on the album with the perfect mix of synth and heavy vocals with Mowery screaming, “There’s nothing left to bleed/You’ve already taken everything”.

“Carnivore” has a sexy, steady groove that almost feels like something is hunting you. The guitars are dark and the vocals are seductive as Mowery sings, “But I’m gonna watch you crawl/watch you crawl/and you’ll love it when I take you in the dark.”

By contrast, “Control” is the realization of being under someone’s thumb in a relationship. The power in the song comes not from the music, but the lyrics painting a picture of not pleading for the relationship that once was there, but the sadness that comes with figuring out a person wasn’t who they claimed to be.

I tried just to try but it’s a fight I realize I cannot win

Nothing will compare to the life that we shared/Then the hell that you put me in

Perhaps one of the strongest tracks is the album closer, “Hollow Dreams” which reflects the darkness of low self-esteem and no true direction in life. The vulnerability in the vocals is real, and while the lyrics invite you into the pain, the rawness of Mowery’s delivery asks you to sit with it without the expectation of fixing anything.

Ah, these thoughts keep taking over/ Like a war inside my mind

They say I’m not enough/I can’t do this every night

And I finally found the reason/I’ll never get this right/won’t get this right

The second offering from Catch Your Breath shows a maturity and progression in their songwriting that will leave listeners stopping and listening intently to their message. They embark on a world tour in support of the album on October 16, 2026. You can get tickets here: Catch Your Breath
