Today is going to be a hot one! And I don't just mean that for the incredible talent slated to hit the stage tonight; I mean that for the steaming hot temperatures upon us here at Orlando's vibrant Disney Springs. With the temperature sitting at a sweltering 95 degrees, fans have been claiming their place in line since about 1 pm in hopes of grabbing a front-row spot. The line steadily grows over the next few hours with many new faces braving the heat. With about an hour before the doors officially open, the line has wrapped around the entire venue, a thrilling confirmation of a completely sold-out show. But who is it that possesses such a magnetic power that compels fans, from near and far, to endure the Florida elements? The incredibly talented band, The Warning. Set to descend upon the House of Blues for the first time, with the very talented band Speed of Light supporting them on the stage tonight.
For those unfamiliar with the name, let's take a moment to get you up to speed. Since bursting onto the music scene in 2013, The Warning has been carving out quite an impressive name for themselves. Daniela (Dany), Paulina (Pau), and Alejandra (Ale) are the Villarreal Vélez sisters from Monterrey, Mexico, that make up this powerful and dynamic rock trio. Their raw talent, energy, and electrifying stage presence have garnered them not just millions of streams on music platforms but also legions of dedicated fans from all over the world. Tonight we catch them about midway through their "Keep Me Fed" tour, hitting the states from the East Coast to the Midwest. In just the past few months, they have successfully completed their European tour celebrating the release of their newest album, "Keep Me Fed," ventured to Latin America to lend their support to the Offspring, and joined Halsey on her tour in the states. The Warning has successfully released four studio albums: XXI Century Blood (2017), Queen of the Murder Scene (2018), Error (2022), and Keep Me Fed (2024), alongside 2 EPs, Escape (2015) and Mayday (2021).
The sisters started their music journey at a young age, each having a background in piano. But as time continued on, each found their truest calling, mastering the instruments that define The Warning's alternative rock sound you hear today. For Daniela, it was learning to play the guitar and singing. Paulina found her passion with percussion, as well as sharing lead vocal duties. And Ale found a love for bass guitar while contributing her voice to the bands' rich harmonies. Each takes part in the writing process as well. With their dynamic and diverse sound and their undeniable connection with their fans, it is evident that we are in for quite a show tonight.Â
Packed to the brim, the House of Blues is filled with an electrifying aura as the clock nears 8pm. Taking the stage first is the insanely talented band, Speed of Light. Riley, Cameron, and Tyler, a sibling trio from Santa Monica, California, effortlessly command the stage. Frontwoman and bass player Riley rocks the house with her powerful vocals and fierce basslines. Cameron, on a sick Les Paul guitar, shreds through the set, lending supportive vocals. Playing on a transparent drum kit, Tyler holds it down from center stage, adding to background vocals as well. The trio instantly captivates the crowd with their set. With songs like "Pain on a Chain," "Seaunce," "Wolf," and "Teeth," they gain new fans with each note they play. Riley, Cameron, and Tyler bring life, rock, and grunge to the stage, injecting the house with tons of energy. Their performance solidifies that the name Speed of Light will be one to remember.
As the clock strikes 9, the lights darken, only for the room to be lit by a large white screen. Guided by a small light, Pau walks out on stage, followed by Ale. Standing to the left side of the stage, Dany's face is illuminated by an emerald green light shining from her lit fret markers. She closes her eyes for a fleeting second, takes a deep breath, and takes a moment to herself. Staring into the dark crowd, she places her hand on the neck of her guitar and plays the opening riff to the song "Six Feet Under." Ale lays down a strong baseline, and Pau, with a heart-pounding beat, joins in, and all three begin to rock. Displayed on the screen is the shadow of a figure moving mysteriously as the anticipation builds. Dressed in a grey plaid skirt, mid-shin black boots, and a black tank top adorned with stars on each side, Dany steps up to the mic and unleashes her powerful vocals. The crowd explodes with cheers and joins in, blending with her voice. It was at this moment I knew this was going to truly be an unforgettable night. The energy and joy is palpable from every corner of the venue. Blazing through an epic setlist, the crowd is treated to a diverse mix of The Warning's discography, transitioning seamlessly through songs from the newest album to fan favorites, Spanish favorites, and older works. "S!ck," "Qué Más Quieres," "Choke," "Burnout," and "Sharks" have the crowd fully enthralled.Â
Paulina is fitted in a white tank top embellished at the neckline and a long black skirt with pink ribbons in her multi-braided pigtails. She commands her throne—the drummer's seat—sitting center stage behind an impressive DW drum setup. She is the backbone of the group and is awesome to watch as she skillfully and effortlessly works her way around the kit while simultaneously lending her voice to lead vocals. She brings an energy that is infectious while keeping a strong foundation and hyping up the crowd throughout the night.
Alejandra keeps the bassline continuously fresh and rhythmically solid. She is the irrefutable link that weaves together the intricate harmonies and rhythms from her sisters. Decked out in a white tank top with the word "Payasa" (Spanish for "clown" or "jester") written in bright red letters with the figure of a jester just below. A black skirt over black pants and sturdy combat boots finishes off the ensemble. Ale ignites the right side of the stage, playing on an array of custom Spector 5-string bass guitars. Staying solid, relaxed, and in the pocket with songs like "Disciple" and "Martirio," she adds her vocals and works the room. It is a privilege to watch her play masterfully.Â
Shredding on an arsenal of custom Paul Reed Smith and Fender guitars, it was impressive to watch Daniela. With songs like "Escapism" and "Hell You Call a Dream," it was incredible to watch her work the fretboard and sing with mind-blowing vocals.
As the night nears its end, I can't help but look around the room at all the different faces and ages that this band has brought together under one roof. A true testament to their stardom, talent, lyrical prowess, and stage presence. The Warning culminates the night in epic fashion with Pau taking the lead, starting off with a sweet drum solo flowing into lead vocals on the song "Narcisista." Her voice is raw and powerful, giving the crowd a few more chances to rock out. "Automatic Sun" serves as their final song, as the crowd savors every last second and note. The Warning takes their final bow, acknowledging the cheers, and then snaps a picture with their devoted fans.
With minds blown, energy high, hearts pounding, and an immense appreciation for the power of rock and its future, The Warning's Daniela, Paulina, and Alejandra leave their hearts and souls on the stage and leave Orlando with memories that will last a lifetime.Â
