It's time for a new review. Up today is Halocene featuring Holding Absence, "Bite My Tongue".
Halocene has been my one of my favorite finds of 2025. They find a way to blend crunchy guitar riffs that just blend so perfectly with lead singer Addie Amick's sweet but powerful voice.
"Bite My Tongue" I feel really shows off just how versatile of a voice Addie has. One moment she is singing so gently slowly luring you in before she unleashes her brutal screams.
The thing that I appreciate most about Halocene is how they can combine catchy lyrics, and a very heavy rock/metal sound yet dive into some pretty deep subjects. "Bite My Tongue" is no different. Addressing abusive relationships and the toll that silence can take on a person.
"I know the guilt and shame you hide
Kept your secrets deep inside
I internalized them, blamed myself and
Stepped in the line of fire
Sacrificed myself but why"
Halocene really hit a homerun with this one. The song is amazing, and I highly recommend checking out the video. When you look into the credits it makes me appreciate and respect the band even more. Written, produced, mixed and mastered, even directed the music video. It's this DIY approach that makes me crave for more. I will be on standby waiting for the next single to drop.
