What inspired the theme or concept behind this album?
Rise is an album forged in angst and frustration with the world system as it stands, where the weak and needy are pushed aside and wealth is worshipped. Each song tackles an aspect of our dissatisfaction. It's time to change the world. It's time to rise. We chose rising smoke for the artwork for its ambiguity and connotation.
Were there any particular events or emotions that shaped the songwriting?
Tim Gurner Says was written directly after the comments by the Aussie billionaire who said unemployment should rise to 50% so workers would appreciate their jobs more. Some of the older songs reflect on political events such as J6 and lockdowns. The main emotion however is dissatisfaction. We, as a race, can do better.
Were there any challenges you faced during the recording process?
The hardest part was getting schedules to work. We simplified our arrangements on this album, dropping the synth icing for a more organic "cake." We were aiming for only putting down what we play live.
Which track was the most fun to create, and why?
For me, it was The Night the Stars Fell. It is about two lovers trying to meet on the night the bombs fall. It was rthe first time Max and I have duetted and that was great.
Did any collaborations influence the sound or direction of this project?
All our songs feel like collaborations. When Max or I bring in a new song the arrangement or structure inevitably morphs into something new and exciting. It shows the writer the limitless possibilities and directions that a song can possess and that is always a big thrill.
Did you experiment with any new techniques, instruments, or styles on this record?
The bass had a buzzing string so some tracks were recorded with max deadening the string physically while Tiim played. Not ideal but needs must. We ended up rerecording though just to be on the safe side.
How do you feel this album represents your evolution as a band?
It saw us presenting a rawer more energetic performance. It was an example of our live show. No overdubs were allowed, apart from lead guitar double ups. It saw us more confident, more expressive and more vibrant than previous albums. It gave Max the freedom to explore guitar harmonies and hooks to add yet another layer for the listener. It also gave the writers of the tracks the confidence to allow Tim (Bass) and Lee (drums) free reign in the arrangements and structure. It was a freeing environment and experience.
What do you hope your fans take away from this album?
We hope fans find joy in the music and inspiration in the lyrical themes. We are first and foremost about entertaining. Any engagement with our lyrics is a bonus. We hope to establish a deeper connection with people who love our music.
Have fans influenced the direction of your music or this album in any way?
I would love to say yes but the truth is that artists must write what is true to themselves. If that happens to be someone else's vision and truth then that is awesome. But when you write to please others, it isn't going to end well, imho. Like the old Aesop fable about the man and the overloaded donkey. You can't please everyone, no matter how considerate you are to other's wishes.
What can fans expect from your upcoming tour or album release events?
A show that is being carefully honed. A band being as open and honest as they can be. Energy and angst.
Do you have any music videos planned for the album? What can you share about them?
We have several videos already out as teasers for the album. Parabellum and Tim Gurner Says are available on our Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@revolutionrabbitdeluxe More will be coming, Friend or Foe is a frantic post-punk excursion in film making and is great fun.
If you could describe this album in three words, what would they be?
Spiky, angsty, euphoria.
Is there a specific moment during the album’s creation that you’ll always remember?
Listening to the masters in the correct running order. It was the moment I knew we had something special in our hands.
Do you have a tour booked or is one being booked to promote the album?
Dates are being filled in for the September launch.
Anything Else That You'd Like the Fans to Know.:
Despite the fact that two of us are on the autism spectrum, we are always open to contact with fans. We love the fact that people want to engage with the music and us.
