What inspired the creation of this single?
Â
It's me poking fun at myself. Seemingly, I'm not very good with commitment or so I've been told several times in the past. I'm not saying it's true but I currently live all alone.Â
Â
What story or message does the song convey?
Â
Ladies, don't ever fall in love with me.Â
Â
Can you tell us about the creative process?
Â
I wrote it during one of my annual writing retreats. Once a year I book a few days in a cheap motel to get away from my reality and write songs. I heard Gordon Lightfoot used to do this whenever he had to write a new record. It certainly works for me.Â
Â
How does this song differ from your previous releases?
Â
This one isn't angry or bittersweet. It's just FUN!Â
Â
What challenges did you face while writing or recording?
Â
As what usually happens with me, I wrote too many verses and had to edit myself. But I've had to do this so often that I actually think it's getting easier for me to dispose of the fat.Â
Â
Did you experiment with any new instruments, techniques, or styles?
Â
Not at all. But producer Moe Berg (The Pursuit Of Happiness/ Trans-Canada Highwaymen) came up with a killer guitar sound for the opening riff. Also, that's Moe playing it.Â
Â
Is there a personal connection or story tied to the lyrics?
Â
Not really. As I mentioned earlier, it's me writing a fun song while mocking one of my so-called flaws.Â
Â
Have you performed it live yet, and what was the audience’s reaction?
Â
Yes, it's been a regular in our set list since last fall and the reaction has been absolutely positive. People seem to be very excited about its upcoming release.Â
Â
Is this single part of a larger project, like an album or EP?
Â
Tentatively, it's the first advance single from the next JCI album which we hope to have ready to go for autumn 2026.Â
Â
Anything Else You'd Like Your Fans to Know.
Â
There is a music video to accompany the release. Our brilliant friend, Sean Ryan (who I've been working with for almost 10 years) has directed another one of his bedazzling visual productions for Reluctantly In Love that will be coming out on Valentine's Day.. Also, if you are in the greater Toronto area, please come see and hear us play it live at our next show. We'll be at Oakville's Moonshine Cafe on Saturday March 21st. Call 905-844-2655.for reservations. Thanks everybody for reading. Â
