Saturday’s at Emo’s! What better way to kick off a holiday weekend???
The evening started with Benjamin Carter, who brought an intimate, stripped-back energy to the stage. His performance was filled with vulnerability, as his soulful vocals and honest lyrics set a mood that captivated the audience. Though unfamiliar with his music prior to the show, I found myself completely absorbed in his set and grateful that I get to say I saw him on his first tour! Keep an eye on this rising star—his journey is just beginning.
The second support act, Quarters of Change, had a performance that was eclectic, with a range of different sounds for the audience to chew on. The contemporary rock sound with some moody 90s style really shines through, and you can tell the band loves what they do. They had some incredible guitar riffs throughout their set. While it lacked something for me, personally, the crowd enjoyed the experience and people looked like they vibed with the overall performance.
As soon as “Sweet Caroline” came through the speakers and The Wrecks were ready to take their place on stage, the audience erupted. It was clear that they have a strong fan base, and after watching their set, I completely understand why.
With each track, The Wrecks showcased their perfect blend of alt-rock & pop-punk energy with the crowd singing along to every word. Their set wasn’t just about music—it was about creating a shared experience. Sharp humor and banter with a guy in a banana suit (an apparent inside joke for fans of the band) really sealed the deal on how they are true showmen.
At one point, the band brought an audience member onstage to sing along and the audience reaction was that of love and acceptance. I also truly enjoyed seeing the frontman jump into the crowd to start a pit- it brought me back to my early days in the scene - and it really brings a sense of connection with their fans.
Final Thoughts: Both Benjamin Carter and The Wrecks delivered unforgettable performances at Emo’s, each bringing something unique to the night. Carter’s emotional vulnerability was the perfect way to set the stage, while The Wrecks took it to another level with their unpredictable, crowd-fueled energy. If this tour is any indication, both artists are ones to watch, with The Wrecks proving that their live shows are not to be missed. Whether you’re a fan of their music or a newcomer like me, they know how to make you feel like you’re part of something much bigger than just a concert.
