Concert Review: Taz at The Sinclair, Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA

On August 28, 2026, I went to photograph Taz, a 23-year-old guitarist performing at The Sinclair, located in the heart of Harvard Square in Cambridge. I was so excited because I knew the performance would be amazing.

I met Brandon Niederauer (AKA Taz) last year during a live music show at Soundcheck Studios in Pembroke, Massachusetts, and I immediately fell in love with his music.

First up was The Gravel Project, an all-star band of Boston music veterans. Blending rock, world music, and jazz with power and soul, the group carries on the tradition of 1970s blues and psychedelic rock.

The band specializes in soul-and-blues-infused rock 'n' roll that capitalizes on the interplay between brothers Andrew Gravel on guitar and Jordan Gravel on organ.

The Gravel Project was fantastic. Drummer Dave Fox and percussionist Brandon Mayes joined Andrew and Jordan Gravel to deliver a terrific performance at The Sinclair.

The band played a variety of songs from albums released over the years. From the love song "Saving Up My Love" to the psychedelic powerhouse "Each Mother," the setlist also included songs such as "Love the Life," "Big Deep Blue," "Facts and Fiction," "Stay with Me," and "Find What You Need."

"No More Fire" had the crowd energized and ready to welcome Taz.

At 9:00 p.m., Taz took the stage. The 23-year-old guitarist was exceptional. Combining technical mastery, deep emotional expression, and strong collaborative skills with an innate ability to connect with the audience, Taz set the venue ablaze.

He knew how to connect with his bandmates and find the right groove in a live ensemble. Showing humility while maintaining a professional mindset, the talented young guitarist possesses all the qualities of a fantastic musician. He owns the music and performs as if he were born with a guitar in his hand.

He gives everything he has and leaves it all on the stage. Every time I see him perform, I am amazed by how talented he is and how incredible his performances are. The musicians in his band are equally impressive, and their chemistry is undeniable.

Kicking off the set with "Jump," Taz and his band, which included Matt Godfrey (keys, backing vocals), Kendall Everett (drums), Nathaniel Coben (bass), performed a variety of songs, many of them from his original single, "Running After You Again," released in September 2025.

At The Sinclair, Taz was terrific, and I cannot wait for him to return.
