Concert Review: Satchvai Band with Animals as Leaders at Leader Bank Pavilion in Boston, MA

On May 20, 2026, Leader Bank Pavilion in Boston, Massachusetts, welcomed The Satchvai Band. The American rock supergroup formed by guitarists Joe Satriani and Steve Vai delivered a terrific performance for the fans who attended the concert. Formed in 2024, along Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, the group included Kenny Aronoff (drums), Marco Mendoza (bass), and Pete Thorn (rhythms guitar).

The show started at 8:00 p.m. with Animals as Leaders as the opener. Formed in Washington, D.C. in 2007 by virtuoso guitarist Tosin Abasi, the group included Javier Reyes on eight-string guitars and Matt Garstka on drums. A progressive metal band whose style draws from progressive rock, jazz fusion, funk and electronica, Animals as Leaders have released four studio albums including Weighless (2011), The Joy of Motion (2014), The Madness of Many (2016) and Panthesia (2022).

At 9:00 p.m. after a brief intermission Joe Satriani & Steve Vai hit the stage. The group delivered exactly what Boston fans hoped for: virtuosic playing, deep-cut favorites, and signature Satch/Vai theatrics. The chemistry between the two guitar legends – trading solos, harmonizing leads, and pushing each other into new improvisational territory – was the defining feature for the night.

Satchvai band’s performance was clean and fluid keeping the audience engaged throughout the night. Satch/Vai dual – lead arrangements were tight and surprisingly emotional. They traded solos with playful competitiveness. Vai’s phrasing was expressive and dramatic, contrasting Satriani’s precision. The band behind them kept everything grounded and powerful. It was an extraordinary night of live music. Boston’s waterfront venue added to the experience – warm May weather, a packed crowd, and excellent sightlines. Everything was perfect.
