Lorna Shore body slammed their way into the Wind Creek Event center along with other heavy hitters, Paleface Swiss and Signs of the Swarm. This is the heaviest show that I have attended in a really long time. For over 3 hours crowd surfers streamed from the back of the venue to the pit. There were so many that unfortunately the crowd and security could barely handle the flow. People were dropped and tossed in the mayhem resulting in a few injuries. The circle pits were as numerous at the crowd surfers as well; the crowd was so amped up for each of these bands.
Signs of the Swarm started the night off with a brief yet powerful set. Touring off of last year's release To Rid Myself of Truth they performed 3 songs off of this album, the title track, Natural Selections and HELLMUSTFEARME.
Throughout the set vocalist David Simonich commanded the stage from on end to the other with his intense vocals and crowd interaction. The band complimented each other with sharp metal riffs and blast beats from the rhythm section. Throughout the set you could feel your heart beating out of your chest from the intensity coming from the stage. Signs of the Swarm are the true definition of Deathcore and are a force to be reckoned with.
Next up was Paleface Swiss. I've heard a lot of really great things about their performances, so I was really stoked to finally catch one of their sets for myself. This Swiss metal band hails from Zurich, Switzerland and were formed in 2017. Paleface Swiss is Marc "Zelli" Zellweger (vocalist), Yannick Lehmann (guitar), Tommy Lee (bassist), and Luigi Paraventi (drummer).
Paleface Swiss performed a 10-song set. Five songs off of last year's release CURSED and 3 off of this year's ep The wilted. The bands intensity, bone crushing beats and raw lyrics provided an insane emotional release for all of the fans. The pounding fists in the air and circle pits provided an amazing atmosphere for the band. There's no better feeling for a band when the energy is returned to the stage.
Marc is an amazing frontman. Belting out lyrics, flashing heartfelt smiles and working the stage like he owned it. Flashing in and out of the darkness their lighting reflected their lyrics perfectly. Paleface Swiss was as good as I have been told and would see them again in a heartbeat.
Last but not least Lorna Shore. I have been trying to photograph this band for several years, so when I received the approval, I was over the moon. Their set blew away every expectation that I had. They tore up the event center for 12 songs over 90-minutes. The band and the fans left literal blood, sweat and tears on the venue floor. From the crowd surfers to the pits the fans showed up in the most metal fashion.
Lead singer Will Ramos sucked me in immediately with his voice, heavy and captivating. His presence filled the room like very few can do. Fans leaned on every lyric and banter between songs. It felt like he was personally singing and speaking to each one of us, the feeling of community in the chaos was incredible.
The band consisting of Adam De Micco (guitar), Andrew O'Connor (guitar) Michael Yager (bass) and Austin Archey (drums) were immaculate. The band was blistering and technical in their execution of each song. Feeling live music without crazy backing tracks these days is rare. Watching this band rip gave me hope that talented musicians still exist and that AI will never match authentic talent.
Lorna Shore lived up to every expectation that I had set and then some. If you need to have an emotional release at a metal concert, then they are the band for you.
