On Friday, April 3, 2026, at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston, Massachusetts, lespecial delivered an unforgettable performance along with Mihali. The night featured a special Nirvana set followed by a tribute to The Offspring. The sold-out show was nothing short of incredible—easily one of the best rock and roll performances I’ve ever experienced. The gritty, no-frills venue provided the perfect backdrop, and the crowd fed off every moment.
The evening kicked off at 8:00 p.m. with opener Shawn Eckels, best known as the longtime lead guitarist for Andy Frasco & The U.N. At Paradise, in front of an electrified audience that sang, danced, and jumped throughout the night, Eckels began with a few acoustic songs. He was later joined by Eric Gould and Zack Burwick of Pink Talking Fish, elevating the set even further. In a recent interview, Eckels cited his musical influences, including Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, early Metallica, James Brown, John Hartford, Miles Davis, and Michael Jackson.
At 9:30 p.m., lespecial took the stage with Mihali as lead vocalist. The crowd erupted instantly, energized by the combination between the genre-bending Connecticut trio and Mihali, the former frontman of Twiddle. The band launched into a powerful Nirvana tribute opening with “Breed” and favorites like “Drain You” and “About a Girl,” among others.
The musicianship throughout the set was exceptional. Mihali (guitar, vocals), Rory Dolan (drums), Luke Bemand (bass), and Jonathan Grusauskas (guitar, synth) delivered a dynamic and engaging performance that had the entire venue captivated.
At 10:15 p.m., lespecial (original band) returned to the stage for their set. Known as a “heavy future groove” power trio, the band blends elements of metal, funk, electronic, and jazz with intricate rhythms. Their return to the stage was met with roaring applause from the packed crowd, as they continued promoting their latest album, Odd Times.
Released in 2023, Odd Times is the band’s fourth full-length album. It’s an ambitious and thought-provoking project that explores the fluid nature of time, particularly during periods of isolation. With heavy riffs, tribal drumming, and moments of playful contrast, the album offers a compelling sonic journey, created in collaboration with Havok’s David Sanchez.
The combined performance of lespecial and Mihali was nothing short of outstanding, and it’s clear their fan base continues to grow across the United States. The atmosphere at Paradise Rock Club was electric—fans sang, danced, and fully immersed themselves in a night of exceptional live music.
As a jam band, lespecial is known for reinterpreting songs through improvisation, extending them over evolving chord progressions and rhythmic grooves. Like iconic acts such as the Grateful Dead, Gov’t Mule, The Allman Brothers Band, Goose, STS9, and Tedeschi Trucks Band, they thrive on fluid set structures, extended performances, and seamless transitions between songs.
Renowned for their high-energy live shows, lespecial has firmly established themselves as one of the top jam bands in the United States. Their performance at Paradise Rock Club proved exactly why. The sold-out crowd loved every minute, making it a truly unforgettable night of rock music.
