The weather wasn’t the only thing giving us the chills on October 26, 2025. Lera Lynn came through Indianapolis, Indiana on her Ruin Me tour to give us all the goosebumps. She put on a truly beautiful show at Turntable. Turntable is an intimate venue in the heart of Broad Ripple Ave in Indianapolis. The vibes are dark and moody, vintage and chill. On this night, she had Dan Hubbard, from Bloomington, Illinois to open up the stage for her.
Upon entering the Turntable venue, the atmosphere has an underground, gritty, but classy feel to it. You then head upstairs to the floor and seating areas. For this show, it was all chill vibes, so all seating. Toward the back, there were tables with faux candle lights. There is not a bad view in that place. The staff was welcoming and pleasant. I was actually going through security checks, and standing there behind me was Lera Lynn herself. Awkwardly, as I always seem to be, I muttered a shy, “Hi!” I gave a little smile and a wave, and let her go about her business. It never gets old running into the star of the show.
Starting off the evening, Dan got right to business. He’s a one man band, and played a gorgeous acoustic set with clean, cool vocals. He may be one man, but has the sound of a complete band. I was truly amazed at his talent. I enjoyed the commentary when he explained the stories behind the songs. He incorporates real life experiences that are so relatable into his lyrics. He mentioned his wife on more than one occasion. It is evident that the love he has for her is bigger and goes even beyond his great talents. He has a way of taking life experiences, heartaches, joys, and places them perfectly into melodies that will have your heart feeling things.
Lera Lynn, based in Nashville is a multi-talented girl. She’s not only an amazing singer and musician, she is also an artist. Her paintings are listed for sale on her website, and they are stellar. You may be familiar with the HBO show True Detective. She had a role on the show as a singer in a bar. She grew her audience with this show. She is out on tour now, back stateside after a European leg, in support of her 9th album, “Comic Book Cowboy”. It’s now ten years since her breakthrough on the show and with her music, but she’s still out there doing her thing, as dazzling as ever.
She really shares who she is with us on stage, as she conversed with us between songs. This is what I love about intimate venues. Her sound is a mix of indie rock, folk, and a little bit of pop. Her new song Comic Book Cowboy has a southern feel to it. To me, even before she performed a killer cover of Lithium by Nirvana, I could sense a heavy Nirvana sound to her music. Down to earth, sweet and real, a face as nice as her music, her show was so pretty. She came out wearing a very sparkly outfit to match her aura. Her eyes are quiet, but her heart is loud and given to us all through her elegant and mesmerizing lyrics.
She played songs from True Detective among other songs stretched across her nine albums. The applause after each song was strong and the crowd was engaged the whole time. For a Sunday night, I was impressed with the energy. I truly enjoyed every second of the concert. It was a mix of a raw calm and bursts of comedic relief from time to time. If you plan to catch an upcoming show, you will be pleased with the set list. My personal favorites were Shape Shifter, Cherry Tree, Make you okay, and Wolf Like Me. Lera Lynn’s vocals live, dare I say, may be better than the recorded version. Truly a spectacle.
After a standing ovation from the crowd, Lera Lynn and the band came back out and played more songs for us. The crowd kept chanting, “play more!” Lera Lynn’s smile was wide and she was truly glowing. She went out to her Merch table after the show and met with fans and that’s always a great end to a night of music. I’ll be seeing Lera Lynn again and again. It’s always nice to refresh the soul with music, and I can say without a lie, that it was a lovely evening of music in Indianapolis.
