CONCERT REVIEW: KALEO AT THE LOWELL SUMMER MUSIC SERIES

On Sunday August 3, 2025, Kaleo stopped at the Lowell Summer Music Series to promote their third studio album titled MIXED EMOTIONS released on May 9 via Atlantic. The weather, the temperature, the atmosphere, the ambiance… Everything was perfect for an exciting night of music. Bringing their chairs with them, hundreds of fans sitting near to each other on the lawn at the Boarding House Park stage were amazed to be part of the outside concert.

The show started at 6:45 p.m. with Edgehill as the opener. The Nashville, TN based alternative rock group composed of Chris Kelly (vocals/guitar), Jake Zimmermann (lead guitar/vocals), Andrei Oluru (bass), and Aidan Cunningham (drums), was terrific on stage.

Formed in the fall of 2021, when Chris and Jake met at a TMR jam session; the duo wrote their debut single "Shooting Glances", which amassed over 450k streams in its first 6 months since release.

Known for their energetic live performances and engaging social media presence, Edgehill played alongside artists such as Stephen Sanchez, Jordy Searcy, Charlie Burg, Day Glow, and more. Driven by their shared experiences and the dream of making it in the music world, Edgehill is currently a popular rock band in Rap, Hip Hop, Country & Western, Pop, Rock, Electronic, and more, who gathered popularity among the young generation.

At the Lowell Music Series, Edgehill played songs such as "Shooting Glances", "Look Around", and at the end played one of their greatest hits “I Can Be Your Dog”.

At 8:00 p.m. after a short break, Kaleo as the headliner hit the stage. The Icelandic blues rock formed in Mosfellsbær and influenced by genres such as blues rock, indie folk and alternative rock, was great during the entire night of their performance. Their blues influences mainly drawn from Delta Blues which was the target for some of the heavier songs in their album A/B brought many fans out of their chairs. They were dancing, singing, repeating every word from their favorite songs executed with brio by Jökull Júliusson, the lead singer of Kaleo. Jökull’s voice was cool and calm, mixing the perfect tone for this outside show.

Kaleo’s band included musicians such as Jökull Júliusson (lead vocals/guitar), Daviõ Antonsson (drum), Daniel Kristjánsson (bass), Rubin Pollock (lead guitar) and Gaukur Davídsson (harmonica/bongos, keyboard).

Lead singer Jökull Júliusson has given influences such as Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, Jim Morrison Hozier, Ray LaMontagne, Led Zeppelin, Cream and ZZ Top. In an interview with Rolling Stones, Jökull explained: “Growing up I was listening to a lot of American music and blues artists and such and that was what kind of connected us.”

Formed in 2012 the group released four studio albums, Kaleo (2013), A/B (2016), Surface Sounds (2021), and Mixed Emotions (2025), as well as the EP Glasshouse (2013). A/B has sold over one million albums worldwide. Its second single, “Way Down We Go”, was certified double platinum in the US and reached number one on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart on 20 August 2016. Kaleo received a Grammy Award nomination in 2017 for Best Rock Performance for the song “No Good”.

Executing a list of songs that includes chart-toppers like "Way Down We Go", "All the Pretty Girls" and "Broken Bones", Kaloe’s band came together on August 3 at the Boarding House Park stage to produce a phenomenal night of music during the Lowell Summer Music Series. Their performance would stay forever in the memory of the audience present that night at their exceptional show.
