Dracula’s Ball descended upon Underground Arts on the most fitting date of all, Halloween. While the ball has gone through quite a few venue switches throughout its years, this switch was one that fit most like the days at Shampoo (R.I.P.) in the early 2000s. With one half of the venue with plush and table seating and a dance floor featuring DJs Spider and Zero and the larger room with live music, there was something for every EDM-loving ghoul and goblin in attendance.
Long-running fixtures of the event, Ego Likeness, kicked off the live music portion of the night. The quartet—Donna Lynch, Steve Archer, Mike K. Johnson, and Rick Fur—delivered a raucous performance that whet the crowd’s appetite for more.
Hometown heroes, Korine were second up on the evening’s roster. The electronic pop duo, Morgy and Trey, gave a passionate performance that transfixed the crowd with their energetic dark wave synth.
As the final act of the night IAMX brought the sex appeal and hedonistic aura that has become the trademark of his live performances, and by extension, the Ball. Corner, joined by Sarah Pray (Carrellelee) on backing vocals / keys and Jon Siren on drums, ran through a few highlights his extensive catalog, from 2004’s Kiss and Swallow to more recent releases, Fault Lines¹ and ² and Metanoia until the raucous crowd called them back for an extended encore.
