On March 12, 2026, the jam-scene duo Gubbulidis delivered an intimate,
improvisational performance at The Drake, a small, lively venue in downtown Amherst,
MA. The show showcased the longstanding musical partnership of guitarist and
vocalist Mihali Savoulidis and bassist Zdenek Gubb, founding members of the Vermont
jam-rock band Twiddle. Opening the evening was singer-songwriter Jesse Bardwell.
The duo formed Gubbulidis as a stripped-down acoustic project that revisits songs from
their years with Twiddle while leaving plenty of space for improvisation and musical
exploration. Drawing on more than a decade of collaboration, Savoulidis and Gubb
emphasize the core elements of their songwriting—melody, harmony, and
groove—creating a sound that feels both familiar to longtime jam-band fans and
refreshing.
At The Drake, the duo embraced their relaxed chemistry, exchanging vocals and
blending arrangements into smooth jams that mixed reggae-inspired rock, folk, and
improvisational groove. The intimate venue allowed the audience to see the interaction
between acoustic guitar and bass up close, highlighting the musical friendship that has
defined the duo since their early days in Vermont.
The March 12 stop in Amherst was part of the duo’s first dedicated Gubbulidis tour,
bringing the two musicians together for a raw, electric, and acoustic set that celebrates
the roots of their collaboration while offering longtime fans a new way to experience
songs from the Twiddle catalog.
