Concert Review: The Chops Deliver an Energetic and Memorable Night at The Met

On October 2, 2026, The Met in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, welcomed The Chops for a special show that began at 9:00 p.m.
Taking the stage with high energy, The Chops opened the night with an entertaining rendition of "Hard to Handle," followed by an exceptional setlist that included songs from their catalog such as "Early Winter," "Salutations," "Elevated Love," "Saturns Moon," "Drum Solo," "Special Jam," "Bobby McGee," and "It Ain't Gonna Be Easy."
Praised by audiences as one of New England's most promising bands, The Chops draw inspiration from across the musical spectrum, ranging from hot jazz to modern pop.
Formed in 2019, the band was created to blend vintage rock musicianship with a modern sound. The lineup at The Met featured Seth Gomez on guitar and vocals, Emma Derhak on vocals, Matt Glickman on keyboards and vocals, Rob Derhak on bass, and Chris Cellucci on drums.
Interviewing the band following the performance, lead guitarist and vocalist Seth Gomez explained the group's mission:
"The goal of starting The Chops was to provide improvised music to fans with a unique take that is rawer than what is around."
He continued:
"To us, creating truly improvised music shows variability that reflects our emotions and those of the crowds that come to see us. We want to use those moments when we truly express ourselves to create something new and unique. Our fans are the best fans we could ask for and are dedicated to supporting us. Our fans have coined the name 'Chops Family,' which is very fitting. We always take time to spend with them and interact off the stage."
Seth Gomez draws inspiration from a wide range of musical legends, including Jerry Garcia, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Sam Cooke, and Miles Davis. His playing combines improvisational freedom with intricate musical textures. From the outset of his career, Gomez has pursued a bold vision: reimagining the psychedelic sounds of the 1960s with a modern twist by blending musical history with contemporary improvisation and songwriting.
As an early creative force behind The Chops, he has helped establish the band's distinctive sound and growing reputation. With his musicianship and creative approach, he is quickly emerging as a noteworthy talent in today's music scene.
To make an already amazing show even better, Emma's father, Rob Derhak, delivered an outstanding performance on bass. His musicianship helped drive the band's energetic sound throughout the evening.
It was a terrific night of music, and I cannot wait to see The Chops again.
