On August 14, 2024, Taking Back Sunday took the stage at MGM Music Hall at Fenway. Following their successful performance to the UK in March this year, the group organized the 2024 Summer North American tour in celebration of their album 152, the first full-length album released in seven years.

It was 8:00 p.m. when Citizen, the Michigan emo punk band as opener arrived on stage. Playing together in 2009 while still in high school, the band performed with the same group of talented artists including: Mat Kerekes (lead vocals), brothers Nick  Hamm (lead guitar, backing vocals) and Eric Hamm (bass), Mason Mercer (rhythm guitar), and Ben Russin (drums).

At MGM in Fenway, Citizen played a list of songs from their five studio albums: Youth (2013), Everybody is Going to Heaven (2015), As You Please (2017), Life in Your Glass World (2021), and Calling the Dogs (2023).

Among them were: I Want to Kill You, Lay Law, If You’re Lonely, Hyper Trophy, Can't Take it Slow, Blue Sunday, Dogs, Sleep, The Night I Drove Alone, Death Dance Approximately

These songs brought that incredible energy that Citizen is known for.

At 9:15 p.m. Taking Back Sunday, the headliner for the night, took the stage. The American rock band from Amityville, New York was formed by guitarists Eddie Reyes and bassist Jesse Lacey in 1999. Now, with Adam Lazzara (lead vocals), John Nolan (lead guitar/piano/vocals), Mark O’Connell (drums), Shaun Cooper (bass), the band unveiled a completely setlist with a good mixture of albums, and many songs from their last album 152 released in October 2023.

It was a terrific night of music. The crowd went crazy every time Taking Back Sunday performed their popular songs such as MakeDamnSure, Cute without the “E” (Cut from the Team), You’re So Last Summer, A Decade Under the Influence, Liar (It Takes One to Know One.

Listening to the repertoire, the music was great. It was a mix of emo, post-hardcore, pop-punk, and alternative rock. Although the band’s most recent line-up change came in 2018 when the band announced that they have parted ways with founding member and guitarist Eddie Reyes for “personal reasons”, at the MGM Music Hall in Fenway, Taking Back Sunday had shown to their fans in Boston why they are one of the most popular alternative rock bands in America.

As a review said Taking Back Sunday is a band that will be here for years to come.
