Single Review: Muse Unleash, Unravelling!

On Friday, June 20th, Muse unleashed “Unravelling”, their first new offering since the 2022 release “Will Of The People.” It’s a sonically weighty track that fans are hoping is the first single off of the UK trio’s tenth studio album rumored to be released some time next year. Muse has never been a group to shy away from blending genres and experimenting with new sounds. And as expected, “Unravelling” doesn’t fit into any one category except for distinctly Muse. The verses are sprinkled with synth reminiscent of a science fiction movie soundtrack and Matt Bellamy’s vocals soar over an open, sweeping chorus. The pleasant surprise is in the guitar work and may remind fans of the Doom video game franchise with its hefty, dark tone. The unexpected breakdown ties all of the song elements together and punches the listener in the gut while the outro leaves them wanting more.
