The first thing that comes to mind when the name Van Halen is mentioned is most likely renowned guitarist and co-founder of the group Van Halen, Ed Van Halen. Or maybe it’s the bombastic frontman David Lee Roth with his lion’s mane hair and tiger striped pants. Regardless of who comes to mind, there’s one more name that should not be slept on.

Wolfgang.

Wolfgang Van Halen has been steadily forging his own path in the world of hard rock for the last 4 years with the release of Mammoth in 2021 and Mammoth II in 2023. With the upcoming release of Mammoth III (10/24/25), the world is in prime position to take notice of the Grammy nominated multi instrumentalist musician.

On September 10th, Mammoth released “I Really Wanna”, the sonically massive third single from the new album. The track features gritty guitars that give off the attitude of not caring what others think. It doesn’t take long to get lost in the groove of the bass and drums, the kind of groove you find yourself nodding your head to without even realizing it. Wolfgang, who tracks all of the instruments himself, has shown tremendous growth in his vocals ranging from the gravelly to the soaring with the chorus being an anthem sure to be screamed by audiences at live shows. The production of the track is full and meaty, giving listeners something to sink their teeth into, including a solo that leaves the neck of the guitar smoking

The song and video, in which Wolfgang is seen playing all the instruments, takes aim at those attempting to diminish Mammoth’s talent, and by extension, his success. “Sometimes it’s like I’ve got a house in your head” can be interpreted as him living in someone’s head rent free, which the young musician doesn’t seem to be the least bit bothered by. The video is delightfully tongue in cheek, but sends a clear message. He doesn’t need, or want, to ride his father’s coattails to success.

Always one to want to make his own way, Wolfgang Van Halen is blazing his own trail in the hard rock industry and this album is poised to set the world on fire.

You can listen to “I Really Wanna” on all major streaming platforms
