Music Review: Marmozets Release CO.WAR.DICE

After bursting onto the rock scene in 2014 with their debut album “The Weird and Wonderful Marmozets” followed by their acclaimed sophomore project, “Knowing What You Know Now”, the Marmozets all but vanished from the music world. Eight years later, after COVID, finding regular jobs, marriage, and becoming parents, the Bingley based alt-rock group is set to unleash their long awaited new album, “Co.War.Dice”, on May 22, 2026.

While typically referred to as an alt-rock group, their sound is refreshingly different and cannot be placed in any one category. The influences from various genres of music are evident as the album boasts sonically eclectic sounds from the distorted punk rock bass line of “You Want The Truth” to the folksy sound of “Dandy”, where front woman Becca Bottomley’s vocal delivery gives the offering a light, whimsical feel.

From the airy sound of “Dandy”, the album jumps straight into the party anthem of the album, “Like Last Night”. Tracks such as “Mes Dirs” and “A Kiss from Mother” seem to draw inspiration from the gritty sound of The White Stripes while the influence of Muse can be heard in the bass and synth of “Cut Back”. Bottomley’s dramatic vocals on “Mes Desirs” lend themselves to the stylings of the B-52s Katie Pierson and Cindy Wilson.

In a January 2026 interview with NME, the band recalls writing the first song, “New York”. The single recounts the band’s whirlwind “surreal” visit to New York to sign the group’s first US record deal 10 years ago. Jack Bottomley, the guitarist and Becca’s husband, said of the song, “We were trying to encapsulate that city visually, but also with the sound of it. We wanted it to be CBGB’s punk vibe.” Mission accomplished.

The album has a “happy ending,” according to Becca with “Keep Going Darling”, a 7:34 minute reminder to keep pushing through adversity to find what’s possible on the other side.

“I did my best.

I see my future.

It’s gonna be a new day.”

A new day is on the horizon for the beloved band as they embark on a UK tour starting May 22, 2026 to celebrate the release. You can find tickets here.  https://marmozets.band/tour-dates
