Evanescence have been hinting around and teasing fans about new music. Lead singer, Amy Lee, had been posting some studio photos on social media in the recent weeks, sparking curiosity and rumors about when new music would drop.
Last evening they announced their new album "Sanctuary" would be released on June 5th and that their new single Who Will You Follow would drop at the stroke of Midnight.
Who Will You Follow was produced by Zakk Cervini and Jordan Fish and is classic Evanescence. I got in my car this morning and it was the first thing I turned on to listen to. I immediately got chills, which honestly doesn't happen often. I was transported back to Evanescence's beginning. Amy's vocals were raw but crisp, the bass and drums were super heavy and signature and the guitar riff overlayed everything perfectly.
Evanescence's songs have a general natural progression and Who Will You Follow has that formula. The song opens with Amy's airy vocals and piano, then the heavy music blasts through for a few measures before the next verse where Amy sings over much lighter instrumentation. The production is spot on and honestly, for me, this is one of their best produced songs and Amy's cleanest vocal performance. The band Tim McCord (guitar), Troy McLawhorn (guitar), Emma Anzai (bass) and Will Hunt (drums) are all amazing musicians that produce the intense and consistent sound for the band.
If Who Will You Follow is any indication "Sanctuary" will be an album for the ages. I know all of their fans are eager for this album to drop and the touring that will follow. It's going to be a very busy couple of years for the band.
You can find all of the information about the album and their spring/summer tour on their website and socials.
