Earlier this year Halestorm and I Prevail announced an insane co-headling tour with Hollywood Undead and Fit for a King but they did not stop there with the efforts to bring their fanbases together. Today they unleashed the most unexpected collaboration with a new single called, "can you see me in the dark?".
Lzzy Hale front women of Halestorm and rock and roll trailblazer hinted about the collaboration in a recent interview and left us all hanging until a couple of days ago when snippets were being dropped on the internet. Yesterday both bands socials announced that the single was dropping this morning and then we waited.
Both Hale and I Prevail vocalist Eric Vanlerberghe issued statements about the single. Eric expressing his excitement about having the song finally come out and how they focused on creating something that felt very much I Prevail and letting Lzzy shine and let her do what she does best. Lzzy in her true fashion spoke about how the song was written for their collective fanbases, community and familiy.
"can you see me in the dark?" is a once in a lifetime song that both bands fully contributed to, bouncing ideas off of one another, to land on a perfect balance of rock and metal. The song was produced by Tyler Smyth who has produced some of I Prevails biggest hits. The song starts off slowly with Lzzy's haunting, crystal polished vocals, piano and then some added kick drum. You could easily be fooled into thinking it was a pop dance track for 50 seconds. Then the rock band shows up and Lzzy's powerful pipes start to fire on all cylinders for the chorus. The second verse flies down this roller coaster of a song to Lzzy having breathy, whispery vocals only to rise back up to the power mixed with Eric's growling vocals saying, "there's nowhere left to hide". When the breakdown hits get ready to hold on. Eric's voice can easily tear you apart and even Lzzy gets in some scream time. She gets flack all the time for not being metal; well metal Lzzy showed up. The song ends with Lzzy bringing it back down the hill vocally to end on a very quiet note.
"can you see me in the dark?" is the best of both bands. The vocalists are in top form, the musicians are tight and polished and the lyircs are powerful. I will say this is probably one of the best collaborations out there right now. Collaborations have been a big part of the rock and metal comminuty for some time but it's usually just the vocalist lending a voice to someone elses band. This is an all out blending of two bands and it could not have been done any better.
Their joint tour kicks off July 9th in Raleigh, NC and is surely going to be one of the best tours of the summer. If we are lucky the bands will treat us to "can you see me in the dark?" during one of their sets. You can find tour dates at both www.halestormrocks.com and www.iprevailband.com .
