Dexter and the Moonrocks played at Wooly's in Des Moines, I.A. June 11th, 2026, to a sold-out house. Joined by supporting bands, High June and Fox N Vead. Together these bands blur the lines between genres like country, southern rock, grunge, and folk in a magically unique way.
The show opened with High June, a high energy, five-piece band from Eastern Carolina. The type of energy they bring to the stage you'd be hard pressed to believe they're an opener. They refuse to define their sound as anything other than "High June".
Following them was Fox N Vead, but make no mistake these two live neck and neck in the music world when it comes to energy and talent. They bring some 90's rock love, even giving a short cover of Alice in Chains, Rooster adding a little country twang to it.
Dexter and the Moonrocks took the stage around 10pm and not only kept the momentum going but somehow managed to raise the energy in the room. They spanned their discography from their original single "Couch" to their music chart disruptive hit, "Freakin Out". From the way the crowd sang along to every single song you'd think they were in the room when they were written. The Moonrocks have an incredibly loyal fanbase that LOVE crowd surfing and hate short men in cowboy hats that try to pick fights. They played three unreleased songs showing there's still a lot left in the tank for them and the crazy momentum they've built in the last few years.
I got the chance to get a few questions answered by the fellas below.
Q: Does this tour feel any different than the first tour you did after having a big song get a lot of attention? (Sad in Carolina vs Freakin' Out)?
A: Absolutely it does. We've got a freaking bus now. It's awesome. We've got sold out show and it feels way different than when we were running around in a tiny van playing small rooms.
Q: You've been to Des Moines three years in a row now. What keeps you coming back?
A. The corn. Love that Iowa corn. Also, Midwest people are crazy.
Q: Any teasers for cool projects on the horizon? You've crushed it with Freakin' Out and 12 Steps (w/ Treaty Oak Revival) recently?
A: We've got a few things in our back pocket and are in the studio working on what's next. (they played 3 unreleased songs during the show that sounded like songs they'd been playing together for years)
