The Plot In You and Motionless In White set the stage for a powerful night of heavy music before Bring Me The Horizon reminded me why they remain one of my favorite bands to photograph and experience live.

Some bands are more than just music to me. They become part of my life, my memories, and the reason I continue chasing the perfect shot from behind a camera. Bring Me The Horizon has always been one of those bands. Walking into Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Thursday, October 8, I knew I was in for something special, but no matter how many times I see them, that excitement never fades.

The Plot In You opened the night with a set packed with emotional intensity and crushing heaviness. Their blend of atmospheric melodies, aggressive instrumentation, and deeply personal lyrics immediately drew me in. Tracks like “FEEL NOTHING,” “Left Behind,” and “Divide” showcased the band's ability to balance vulnerability with sheer force. As a photographer, I love artists who put everything into their performances, and The Plot In You brought an intensity that translated beautifully to the live setting. They were a powerful start to an evening that continued building with every song.

Next was truly one of my other favorite bands out there Motionless in White, bringing their unmistakable gothic aesthetic, theatrical presence, and industrial edged metal to the arena. From “Signs of Life” and “Voices” to the relentless assault of “Playing God (Feat Corey Taylor),” their set was packed with commanding performances and larger than life energy. Chris Motionless has a way of owning a stage, and the band's combination of dark visuals, crushing riffs, and melodic choruses made every moment feel cinematic. “Another Life” and “Eternally Yours” added an emotional dimension that balanced the aggression. Their performance was a reminder that heavy music can be both beautifully haunting and absolutely explosive, Proving once again why Motionless in White has been killing it in this industry for the last 20 years!!

Then came the moment I had been waiting for: Bring Me The Horizon.

There is something genuinely difficult to explain about watching one of your favorite bands take over an arena. The lights, the production, the sound, the crowd screaming every word it all becomes overwhelming in the best possible way. Opening with “DArkSide,” BMTH launched into a set that moved effortlessly between explosive chaos and emotional vulnerability. “MANTRA,” “Happy Song,” and “Teardrops” kept the energy high, while “Shadow Moses” and “Kingslayer” delivered the kind of intensity that makes you feel every beat in your chest.

For me, though, this experience was about more than the setlist. Bring Me The Horizon is one of my favorite bands to ever photograph, and standing there with a camera, trying to capture those fleeting moments of raw emotion, is something I will never take for granted. I'm always searching for that perfect frame the lighting hitting just right, the expression, the movement, the connection between artist and audience. Sometimes, however, I have to remind myself to put the camera down mentally and simply feel the moment.

“Doomed,” “Drown,” and “Throne” brought the night toward an unforgettable finish, leaving the arena filled with the kind of energy that stays with you long after the final note.

Walking away, I felt grateful. Grateful for the music, the opportunity to photograph artists I love, and the memories that make all the late nights and camera gear worth it. Bring Me The Horizon continues to remind me why I fell in love with live music and concert photography in the first place. Some shows give you great pictures; others give you feelings you struggle to put into words.

Thursday night gave me both.
