Concert Review: Amigo The Devil Brings an Intimate Night to Toronto's Danforth Music Hall

Amigo The Devil made a stop in Toronto, on September 22, 2026, playing to an intimate crowd at the Danforth Music Hall. Liam St. John is the supporting act throughout the tour.

I wasn’t familiar with Liam St. John before the show, but I was impressed by the talent of the trio. It’s always impressive how three stringed instruments and harmonized vocals can fill a theatre with what appears to be little effort. There was no denying the trio love what they do and have a lot of fun doing it. They closed their set with a little bit of theatrics, with Liam bending backwards over the upright bass that had been placed on its side, while still managing to hit every note on the guitar.

Amigo The Devil took the stage shortly after to a room full of cheers. While I’m a huge fan of the storytelling style of each song Amigo the Devil plays, the live performance is amplified by off-lyric ad-libs, dramatic vocal ranges and a dynamic stage presence.

Admittedly, sharing the reason he wrote the lyrics to songs is not something he does often on stage, he went on, he does enjoy lying about those reasons. This may have been his ice breaker as he continued to talk about writing "A New Kind of Lonely" while his house was lost in a devastating fire in 2025. He then did not play that song and went on to sing "My Body is a Dive Bar".

Lead singer Danny has a brilliant way of captivating the audience while also engaging them in periodic call-and-response portions of the songs. And if he wasn’t satisfied with the volume, he was persistent until the crowd met his expectations, which encouraged Danny to sing with even more enthusiasm.

For the final two songs, he stepped down from the stage, taking an already intimate evening to another level.
