Concert Review: Adirondack Independence Music Festival

What a fabulous Labor Day weekend it was in Lake George, New York.

From September 4 through September 6, 2026, the Charles R. Wood Festival Commons in the heart of Lake George hosted the Adirondack Independence Music Festival, three days of live music featuring a wide variety of genres, including rock, indie, jam, and alternative rock. Thousands of fans traveled to the Warren County destination at the southern edge of the Adirondack Park to celebrate the festival's 11th year over Labor Day weekend.

The 2026 Adirondack Independence Music Festival was a resounding success, featuring an exceptional lineup of both local and national acts spread across two stages. Guest appearances were common throughout the weekend, with musicians frequently joining one another's sets, adding even more excitement and spontaneity to the performances. Music continued nonstop each day from 1 p.m. until 11 p.m.

More Than Just a Music Festival

This event was about more than music. With free admission for children 12 and under, the festival welcomed families and fostered a true sense of community, creativity, and connection through live music. As an independent festival, its mission was simple: make sure everyone has a great time. Judging by the smiles throughout the weekend, that goal was certainly achieved.

Beyond the music, the festival featured a diverse selection of food vendors, craft vendors, and the added bonus of Lake George's spectacular fireworks display on Saturday evening.

A VIP experience was also available, including admission for all three days, a meal each evening, complimentary snacks, discounted beverages, a private viewing area, and access to the VIP tent with tables, chairs, a private bar, and dedicated restroom facilities.

The venue offered an impressive selection of beer, wine, and cocktails, while numerous food options were conveniently located throughout the festival grounds.

One concertgoer summed it up perfectly:

"I love the town and the crowd. Three days of nonstop music were wonderful, and I enjoyed every minute of the festival."

Highlights From the Weekend

There were countless memorable moments throughout the festival. Smiling faces, nonstop dancing, great food, cold drinks, and outstanding music defined the experience from the opening notes on Friday through the final encore on Sunday night.

Everywhere you looked, people were enjoying themselves. The atmosphere was overwhelmingly positive, and the sense of community among music fans was unmistakable.

One of the festival's biggest highlights was moe., who performed two nights with two sets each evening. As one of the pioneering jam bands, moe. delivered exactly what fans hoped for: flowing improvisation, excellent musicianship, and memorable performances that stood among the weekend's best.

The Floozies

Another standout was The Floozies. The Kansas City-based duo, formed by brothers Matt and Mark Hill, delivered a terrific set that showcased their trademark blend of electronic funk and jam-band influences. Their energy was contagious, and the crowd responded enthusiastically throughout the performance.

Deer Tick

Deer Tick also turned in a phenomenal set. The Rhode Island-based band seamlessly blended alternative rock, Americana, folk, country, blues, and punk influences into a captivating performance that kept festival-goers engaged from start to finish.

Pink Talking Fish

As expected, Pink Talking Fish delivered another exceptional performance on the festival's final day.

The band's energy on stage was remarkable. Their love and respect for the music of Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, and Phish is evident in every note they play. Rather than simply recreating familiar songs, they reinterpret them in a way that keeps the music feeling fresh, exciting, and original while honoring the artists who inspired it.

Gubbulidis

Gubbulidis impressed fans with exceptional musicianship, tight harmonies, and infectious grooves. The duo of Mihali Savoulidis and Zdenek Gubb has performed together for years, and their musical chemistry was evident throughout their set.

Their connection with both the music and the audience was undeniable, and the crowd responded with enthusiasm and appreciation.

Dogs in a Pile

Closing out the festival was Dogs in a Pile, and they did not disappoint.

The New Jersey jam-band favorites delivered an outstanding performance featuring selections from their growing catalog of psychedelic rock, jazz-fusion, and improvisational originals. A special highlight occurred when renowned saxophonist Karl Denson, leader of Karl Denson's Tiny Universe and touring member of The Rolling Stones, joined the band during their first set. His guest appearance added another memorable chapter to an already remarkable weekend.

Looking Ahead to 2027

With beautiful weather, exceptional performances, and a welcoming atmosphere, the 2026 Adirondack Independence Music Festival was an overwhelming success.

Everyone who attended the three-day celebration seemed thoroughly satisfied, and the vast majority of festival-goers I spoke with are already planning their return next year.

If this year's event was any indication, the Adirondack Independence Music Festival will continue to be one of the premier Labor Day weekend music destinations in the Northeast.
