Yee Loi Announces Debut Album Flicks, Licks, Party Tricks in London

Never ones to do anything quietly, Yee Loi used their debut album announcement to make some noise, and where better to make such an announcement and put on a showcase than Beautifully Romanticised Accidentally Traumatized, Yungblood’s clothing store and music space on Denmark Street, London? The gathered press was treated to a six-song showcase that was loud, lively and a lot of fun.
The Liverpool sibling trio – Rose on guitar, Matilda on drums and vocals, and Don Don on bass – packed plenty into the short set. There’s a playful streak to what they do, with punk energy and a knack for melody giving you plenty to get caught up in. The volume certainly helped.
The trio have already reached listeners through YouTube, where they treat their 21k followers with covers, original songs and live performances. Tuesday’s showcase gave us a chance to experience that enthusiasm up close, and at considerable volume.
Opening with Why Ask Why, they moved through Down In The Bunker and Social Suicide before Mystery Train, Picture Perfect and Miraclist completed the set. Six songs were enough to make an impression, and this small basement felt like a very good place to meet them.
What stayed with me was how much fun it all was. Yee Loi have the kind of energy that makes you want to get closer, turn it up and stay for another song. An album announcement brought us there, but the performance gave us a reason to come back, and I will see them again as they head out on tour in support of Transvision Vamp for the month of October.
Their debut album, Flicks, licks, party tricks, arrives on 15 January 2027 through Modern Sky UK.
