Music Review: Motionless in White Release New Single, Playing God Ft. Slipknots Corey Taylor

For 20 years, Motionless In White has been writing music about religion, politics, corporate greed, and mental health. For 20 years, Motionless In White has been grinding on the road, a staple in the metalcore scene including the early days of Vans Warped Tour. For 20 years, the Scranton, PA based group has been evolving their sound, earning them new fans and chart success. So, it makes sense that the band’s 7th studio album, set for release on July 17th, 2026, is titled “Decades”. Along with the album announcement came the second single, “Playing God”, a rage filled track aimed directly at people, who frontman Chris Motionless said in a recent statement posted to his X account, “... treat bands, artists, entertainers, etc. as though they are their property to impose their all-knowing godly rule upon.”

The track opens with a nu metal sound that is drawing comparisons to Slipknot’s “Eyeless”, which makes sense considering the track features Corey Taylor. “Playing God” is a true feature, with both vocalists sharing equal responsibility during verses and choruses. Motionless and Taylor are at their best here, their raw screams playing well off of each other. Combine two prominent metal vocalists with gang vocals behind them and you get verses that are angry and robust. Motionless has been known for catchy choruses and this song is no exception. If the song is played live, expect to see nothing but middle fingers for the duration with lyrics like:

So f*** you

You falsify truth

To fabricate views

Cause without ’em you’re nothing

Ever evolving, Motionless is celebrating 20 years as a group by weaving strands of previous eras into the new album cycle from a recent “Reincarnate” era inspired photo shoot to incorporating lyrics from previous songs (“You’re mine motherf***er” ~ Soft). “Playing God”’s verses are reminiscent of the aggressive “Thoughts and Prayers. The riffs are chugging with harmonics and squeals which at times makes the song sound like it could be on a Slipknot album and the”Slaughterhouse” style callout and breakdown are sure to inspire massive circle pits for fans to work out their frustrations:

Grovel like a b*tch on your knees for the applause

Lick the f***ing dirt off my boots like a good dog

Chris Motionless has said that the upcoming album will be on the heavier side, and the first two tracks have kept that promise so far, leaving fans salivating for more.

The band will be touring extensively this summer. You can find the dates and tickets here: https://www.motionlessinwhite.net/tour/ “Playing God” is now on all major streaming services.
