The hard rock/metal world has been blessed with an onslaught of new music since the beginning of the year from Shinedown to Motionless In White. On February 27th, Beartooth joined the fray, releasing their first single since signing with Fearless Records.
“Free”, co-written and co-produced by former Bring Me The Horizon member, Jordan Fish, is a blistering anthem, with Shomo taking a brutally honest look at what it means to be comfortable in your own skin (See the path in my head/Scared of where it goes/Do I love it ? Do I hate it?/
I wanna know/Am I really lonely or am I the reason I'm alone?).
That includes leaning heavily into his pop influences, particularly in the verses, and blending them with Beartooth’s signature crunching guitars and heavy bass riff during the chorus, creating a sound that could be described as a cross between “Disgusting” and “The Surface”. The chorus soars and is guaranteed to be belt worthy by live crowds while the breakdown will keep the mosh pit going.
The music video also reflects the song’s message combining what some might call provocative fashion choices with Shomo’s trademark energy and passion. You can watch it here.
In a recent statement, Shomo explained the song as “the next chapter of my music and my life.” He goes on to say, “In one day you can equally experience pure fear and pure joy. This song shows a glimpse of what is to come from the next Beartooth album, which is the most honest depiction of my soul I will most likely ever make.”
Beartooth is currently on the road supporting Bad Omens on their Do You Feel Love tour. You can get tickets here. TOUR – Beartooth Store
