Album Review: The Way by Dorothy!

On March 14th, powerhouse vocalist Dorothy (Dorothy Martin) released her fourth album titled The Way. The album was produced by Grammy nominated producer Scott Stevens.

The album as a whole is a baptism says Dorothy, she wrote this album as a love letter to her fans. The singles from this album were some of her best since “Rest In Peace”. The first single ‘Mud’, kicked in the door for what was about to come.  From her power vocals to the killer guitars and that scream in the bridge, she really knows how to make you want to hear the rest of the album. “Mud” to me is a song about finding the strength to get up and continue to fight no matter how dirty you get, it's a song of survival, the scream in the bridge is like a battle cry and she's telling you that there is hope.

The second single from The Way was “The Devil I Know” this song really spoke to me as it talks about the demons that keep trying to bring us down. To me it reflects how our society is the devil we all know and how we have things that try to hurt us and try to kill us but we can’t let ourselves get to that point because we are stronger than any devil that will try to take us to hell. We need to come together and fight the demons and the darkness. We are the light that will break the darkness.

The third single was “I Come Alive” and this song is my favorite from the album. It makes you feel like you can do anything. It's an empowering song about not only religion because the whole album is Dorothy’s coming to God and ridding herself of everything that was no longer serving her. The song “I Come Alive” can be both religious or you can look at it as a song of hope that you can come alive after anything that has happened to you and that you are not alone.

The fourth and final single of the album was “Tombstone Town” with the legendary Slash. All I can say about this song is it's a killer, the instrumental, the lyrics are perfect, and every riff of her vocals. It’s just the perfect song for anyone who's going through a breakup or divorce, please give it a listen and you won't regret it.

Now that I’ve talked about the singles, I want to dive into three songs that spoke to me and I can say are her best works of art. The first song is” Haunted House”. The lyrics talk about how the demons in your head can make it feel like you're living in a haunted house and how everyone around you can't understand why you can't just be happy. It's as simple as that.

The second song I found was very relatable was “Superhuman”. I liked this song mostly because of the way she sings, it’s like she’s baptizing me in a way that I’ve only dreamed of. She makes u feel safe and it's like you’re reaching heaven but in the most Rock N Roll way and the lyrics are what we all needed it's what I needed.

The last song I'm madly in love with is the title track “The Way”. It’s the perfect end to the most spiritual ride of your life. The lyrics, the production, everything is perfect. Now mind you it will make you cry but in the best way possible. Now that I’ve talked about the album, I think it's your turn, go give The Way a listen and let us know what you think.
