Album Review: Mammoth Release, The End!

ree

On October 24, 2025, Mammoth, formerly Mammoth WVH until a recent copyright change was granted, released their third album in four years. The solo project of Grammy nominated Wolfgang Van Halen is a fun mix of tongue in cheek lyrics, late 90’s inspired guitars, and gratitude for the opportunities available to the talented multi-instrumentalist.

The album kicks off with “One Of A Kind”, a Foo Fighters inspired romp through riffs and haunting melodies. The next four tracks have been released as singles along with music videos. “The End” prominently features the tapping that made his father beloved in the music industry while “I Really Wanna” showcases tuned down, gritty guitars, lyrics that some believe are aimed at Mammoth’s critics, and a solo that lingers in the brain long after the song is over. “Happy” is a delightful change of pace sonically with the open, less pointed instrumentation giving the song room to breathe making it a stand out track. While a couple of tracks may initially sound simplistic in their writing, a closer listen reveals the way Wolfgang Van Halen layers the guitars to provide a full, rich sound which also translates well to his live performances.

The offering is the shortest of the three Mammoth albums; however, the impact of the 39 minutes of music is undeniable. Van Halen’s vocals are strong and more confident. He took some chances on this album, too, experimenting with key changes as well as the way he wrote and recorded demos, opting to play the instruments live as opposed to putting them together using a computer, a process he described in an interview as challenging and fun. And fun this album is.

Mammoth is currently on the road in support of Myles Kennedy. You can find tickets here: https://mammoth.band/pages/tour
